Cadence 79 - On Hope, Gratitude and Festive Goodies

“Optimism is the most important human trait, because it allows us to evolve our ideas, to improve our situation, and to hope for a better tomorrow.”

Hi from Mich,

As the sun sets on an interesting year, how are you doing lovely ones?

Hope you’re on the home stretch with your sanity intact, a smidge of optimism in your pocket, and something fun planned for whatever you get up to during the holidays?

This is the final newsletter of 2023, and it's bumper packed, so I’ll get straight to the point(s):

  • Season 8 Podcast Finale
  • A quick review of 2023
  • Christmas goodies
  • January workshops to help you start the year right
  • 2024 Coaching programme update

1. Podcast News

Episode 54

The season finale is out now and it’s a recap of the key themes discussed with my guests this season with an insightful clip from each episode.

Listen

A big thank you again to my guests (in order on this pic) Trudi Roth, Kelly Berry, Catarina King, Danielle Hughes, Barrie Thompson, Alison Coward, Pat Williams, and Garth Dew.

You can catch the full season at creatingcadence.co/episodes, or on your favourite pod platform.

2. My Year in Review

This year has had some exceptionally lovely highs:

  • Publishing a book (A really big tick on my bucket list)
  • Getting back to my podcasting with another 10 episodes for season 8. (My listenership on Spotify grew by 43% this year, which is mega)
  • Celebrating my Mum’s 80th birthday in Greece with my family. (Special memories - priceless!)
  • Remote working stints in Portugal and France. (More wonderful experiences, experimentation and creative inspiration)
  • Moving house to a place that supports me better. (I have beautiful light in my new home, and a much easier commute)

And some crappy lows:

  • Perimenopause showed up in earnest, causing some health issues that floored me. (It has taken several months to recalibrate, but I’m much better now - finding the right combo of HRT has made all the difference, alongside the stress reduction techniques I write about in my book)
  • Work instability caused extra financial stress. (I'll be honest, the current economic climate is forcing me to change my service offerings for 2024, for the better!)
  • Scammers fraudulently used my new address to register no less than 28 fake businesses in 2 weeks, and counting. (It’s taking a looong time to sort out, but I’ve learned a great deal about Companies House biz reg processes in the process, lo!)

Even though there were niggly negatives in 2023, they all resulted in me learning new things about myself and about doing business.

Learning is a core value and driver for me, so there were benefits to be found in the downsides.

And, in the bigger picture, these are small problems, and there’s a lot to be grateful for.

  • I have a roof over my head in the midst of Winter.
  • I have people who care about me and respect the work I’m doing.
  • I don’t live in a war zone.
  • And I’m not being persecuted for my religion, or the colour of my skin, or my sexual orientation.

As, Seth Godin says in the quote above,

"Optimism is the most important human trait, because it allows us to evolve our ideas, to improve our situation, and to hope for a better tomorrow."

Optimism is what helps us find hope (and opportunity) in dark times.

Remember, there is always another way. And the glass is always full. Full of possibility!

Perspective is a wonderful thing. And whenever life feels hard and fraught with shit, I often find I look to the skies, or to nature, to remind me of what's important.

The view of the galaxy reminds me that my challenges are but a speck of space dust. It doesn’t make them trivial, but it does make them seem more manageable. And being in nature calms and resets my natural rhythms to reconnect with the larger ecosystem that I'm a part of.

5. Coaching Programme Update

Finally, I’ve been hinting in the podcast this season that I will be sharing more about next year’s intentional productivity coaching programme in the newsletter first.

I’m still putting final touches on the content, but here’s 10 things I can tell you so far...

  1. It’s a six week online programme.
  2. It’s launching in late February / early March 2024
  3. It’s cohort-based with 10 - 15 high-striving people who, like you, want to change their approach to work.
  4. It’s going to help you do better work, more productively.
  5. It’s going to help you manage your stress better.
  6. It’s going to help you set boundaries that protect your wellbeing and attention.
  7. It’s going to help you unleash your creativity.
  8. It’s going to help you become more mindful about how you work and how you live.
  9. It’s going to help you find more joy in your day to day.
  10. It’s going to help you show up better for the people you care about.

Sound good so far? If you’re interested in finding out more before the official launch, then don’t be shy, hit reply.

If this is all too much to take in during the festive frenzy, then bookmark this email and come back to it in the first week in January. I’ll be here, when you’re ready.

Wishing you courage, curiosity and cadence, PLUS warmth, love and festive fun this December (and plenty of hugs too).

Take care and see you on the flip side!

Mich x

Issue #89 Cadence - Life & Work in Motion "Focusing attention is a skill. Where we choose to direct our gaze determines not only what we learn or believe, but how we choose to see the world." ~ Seth Godin Hi Reader Hope you're ok and have enjoyed some extra space over August? I got to do more walking in the Lakes and it was lovely! So, now I'm back from summer break to share a new look newsletter with a new 3-2-1 format for easy reading. If you missed the July newsletter, I announced that...

“A career is not a series of tasks. It's the chance to build things.” Seth Godin Read / share this newsletter on the web. Hi Reader, Coming up for air after several weeks of intensive work and I'm still wearing closed shoes and hoodies, so it's seems Summer up north has been busy elsewhere too. How is Part 2 of your year going so far? Part 2 is the second part of the story. It's a chance to start over. To do something different. To make things right. And my part 2 is starting with a pivot....

““If we make time to step away from our routines, it gives us a chance to realise what we can’t wait to get back to. It can help us to appreciate the things we actually enjoy." Suzy Reading - Rest to Reset Read / share this newsletter on the web. Hi Reader, Wahey, it's June already! While some of you may be taking a well-deserved half-term break, my current workload is preventing me from publishing here twice a month. I always find things get hurly burly busy at this time of year, and not...
